Bring the scent of a sunny garden indoors with this refreshing summer simmer pot. Packed with bright lemons, spicy ginger, sweet blueberries, and crisp mint, it’s the ultimate natural way to make your whole house smell beautifully clean, vibrant, and effortlessly fresh.

Why the Slow Cooker Beats the Stovetop for Summer Simpering

While the stovetop is the traditional way to fill your home with cozy aromas, switching to a regular or mini crock pot is an absolute game-changer—especially during the warmer months. Here is why the slow cooker is your best friend for a summer blend:

  • Keep Your Kitchen Cool: The absolute last thing anyone wants to do on a hot July afternoon is leave a burner running on the stove. A slow cooker traps the heat inside the unit, allowing you to fill your apartment with beautiful fragrance without turning your kitchen into a sauna.
  • Set It and Forget It Safety: Stovetop simmer pots require constant supervision to ensure the water doesn’t completely evaporate, which can scorch your pot. With a crock pot, you can set it to low, slide the lid slightly to the side to let the refreshing aroma escape, and safely go about your day without checking on it every twenty minutes.
  • Perfect for Small Spaces: If you have a smaller kitchen or limited counter space, a mini slow cooker is the ultimate space-saver. It tucked away easily out of the way, gently releasing a continuous stream of bright lemon and mint aroma without taking up a single stovetop burner.
  • A Continuous, Gentle Simmer: Slow cookers excel at maintaining a perfectly steady, low temperature. This gentle heat preserves the fresh quality of delicate ingredients like fresh mint and blueberries, preventing them from breaking down too quickly or getting that “over-boiled” smell.

Note: If you plan to use a mini or standard slow cooker, just remember to prop the lid open slightly or slide it to the side to let that gorgeous, steam-filled aroma drift through your rooms! You will also need to check the water level and fill it when it starts to get low.

📝 Simmer Pot Notes & Tips

  • Adjusting the Lid: If using a slow cooker or mini crock pot, keep the lid on until the water is nice and hot, then slide the lid slightly to the side to allow the steam and beautiful aroma to escape into your home.
  • Keeping an Eye on Water Levels: Even in a slow cooker, water will slowly evaporate over time. Check the pot every few hours and top it off with warm water as needed to keep your ingredients safely submerged.
  • Repurposing Kitchen Scraps: You don’t need to use pristine ingredients! This is the perfect way to use up lemon ends, slightly bruised blueberries, or leftover ginger peelings from dinner prep.
  • Freezing for Later: You can prep these ingredients ahead of time. Slice the lemons and ginger, toss them in a freezer-safe bag with the blueberries and mint, and freeze. When you’re ready to use it, just drop the frozen mix straight into your pot with water.
  • Easy Variations:
  • Want a sweeter scent? Add a splash of vanilla extract.
  • Looking for extra warmth? Toss in a stick of lemongrass or a few cardamom pods.
  • Safety First: Check the water level periodically and always unplug your slow cooker when you leave the house or go to bed.
  • Large Crock Pots: You may wish to use 1-2 extra lemons, a whole clove of ginger, dtill a half cup of blueberries, and make sure your water is at least half full, if not more.
  • Lasts: 3 days before it starts to turn grody.
