The Ultimate Low-Carb Iced Chai Latte for Autumn 🍂☕

As the air crispens and the leaves begin to turn, there’s a familiar, comforting urge to lean into warm spices and cozy routines. But here in early autumn, we often get those gorgeous, warm sunny afternoons where a hot drink is just a bit too cozy.

Enter the Low-Carb Iced Chai Latte.

It gives you every bit of that sweet, cinnamon-and-cardamom autumn comfort, but over ice for a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up—all while keeping your carbs right around 1 to 2 grams!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Traditional coffeehouse chai lattes are delicious, but they’re usually made with heavily sweetened liquid concentrates packed with 25+ grams of sugar per cup.

This simple homemade version swaps out the sugar rush without sacrificing any of the creamy, rich coffeehouse flavor:

  • Real Spices: We double up on Twinings Chai Spiced Black Tea bags for a bold, rich tea base.
  • The “Coffeehouse Texture” Trick: Mixing a splash of heavy whipping cream with cold water replicates the exact texture of whole milk with virtually zero carbs.
  • Warm Vanilla & Spice: A drop or two of pure vanilla extract smooths out the black tea, while a generous dusting of cinnamon brings out those classic fall aromas.

Equipment

  • measuring Spoons (for vanilla extract and heavy whipping cream)
  • Liquid measuring cup (for measuring water, or for steeping safely)
  • Heat-safe ceramic mug or Pyrex measuring cup (for steeping tea bags in boiling water)
  • 10 oz tall glass (for serving over ice)
  • Spoon (for stirring sweetener into hot tea and combining the drink)
  • Reusable straw (optional, for sipping)

Ingredients

  • 2 Twinings Chai Spiced Black Tea Bags
  • 4 oz. (½ cup) boiling water
  • 3 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 4 Tbsp cold water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract Imitation works to.
  • 1 packet stevia (or your favorite zero-carb sweetener, to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • Canned whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Ground cinnamon (for dusting)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Brew the Concentrated Spice Base

In a ceramic mug or Pyrex measuring cup, pour 4 oz of boiling water over your 2 Twinings tea bags. Let it steep for 5 to 7 minutes. Give the tea bags a gentle press against the side of the mug before discarding them so you extract every bit of that warm spiced flavor.
  • Step 2: Sweeten & Flavor

While the tea base is still steaming hot, stir in your stevia packet and vanilla extract until completely dissolved.
  • Step 3: Flash-Chill

Drop 2 or 3 ice cubes directly into your hot tea concentrate. Stir for a moment until the ice melts and cools the tea down to room temperature. (This prevents the hot tea from cracking glass or immediately watering down your drink later!)
  • Step 4: Mix the Low-Carb Milk

In a small cup, stir together 3 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and 4 tablespoons of cold water. This simple ratio gives you perfectly pourable, velvety milk that cuts through the chai spices beautifully.
  • Step 5: Assemble & Enjoy!

Fill your 10 oz glass to the top with fresh ice. Pour in your chilled chai tea base, followed by your cream-and-water mixture. Give it a gentle stir. Top with a swirl of cold canned whipped cream and a dusting of ground cinnamon!

Recipe Tips & Customizations

  • Extra Creamy Texture: Using 3 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and 4 tablespoons of water creates a noticeably richer, velvety latte that perfectly balances the bold chai spices without watering down the flavor.
  • Safe Steeping First: Always steep your tea bags in a ceramic mug or heat-safe Pyrex measuring cup with boiling water first. Transferring the chilled tea to your everyday drinking glass prevents sudden temperature changes from cracking standard glassware.
  • Flash-Chill Shortcut: Dropping 2 to 3 ice cubes directly into the hot brewed tea speeds up cooling so your serving ice doesn’t melt into a watered-down latte.

Dietary Modifications

  • Gluten-Free: This recipe is naturally 100% gluten-free! Twinings Chai Spiced Black Tea bags, pure vanilla extract, stevia, and heavy cream contain no gluten ingredients. (Always double-check canned whipped cream labels for gluten-containing stabilizers if using a store-bought can).
  • Vegan & Dairy-Free Option: Swap the heavy whipping cream and water mixture for ½ cup of unsweetened canned coconut milk (the full-fat variety in a can, well-stirred) or unsweetened almond milk. Full-fat coconut milk provides that same ultra-creamy coffeehouse mouthfeel while keeping the drink completely plant-based and low-carb (~1g net carb). You can also top with a squirt of coconut-based or almond-based canned whipped topping.
